Strategy talk: How strategy differs for nonprofits

Nonprofit organizations don’t have customers, but they do have to compete for financial supporters. That requires that organizations have a clear understanding of who their target supporters are, what kind of value proposition those supporters require, and what kinds of capabilities the organization must excel at in order to deliver that value proposition. The nonprofits that can identify these three attributes will have a clear strategy for executing their mission.
